Project summary

The EIP Fieldmap project is developing an easy-to-use web application for farm-level soil health assessment and monitoring. The application enables the collection and evaluation of data on soil fertility and allows farmers to track the results of their own experimental farming activities over both short and long-term periods. It provides users with a comprehensive overview of soil condition, trends, and the impact of improvement measures.

The application utilizes open data map resources, meaning publicly available geospatial datasets. It consists of two parts: a mobile field tool for on-site observations and a browser-based mapping service. The Fieldmap application can be used as a tool for farmers in planning farming practices that enhance soil health, as well as in agricultural advisory services, education, and inspiring young farmers.

The project is implemented in close collaboration with farmers, educational institutions, and experts in the regions of Southwest Finland and South Ostrobothnia. The results will be widely accessible through the Fieldmap application for all those who are interested in soil health.

The project is coordinated by Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK), with Luke, Livia, and Gispo Suomi Oy as co-implementers representing the EIP expert group. Additionally, the EIP group includes an innovation team composed of primary agricultural producers.
